Hey guys. I'm looking to get a pump but unsure on what to get. I currently have a 65 gallon tank with an overhead filter. The local fish guy said to get a pump to increase circulation. What kind should I get?

I assume he was referring to a powerhead type circulation pump so depending on your budget would suggest a couple Hydor Evo 1050's or 1400's on the lower end (but great pumps for the money) to step up a little in flow look into Tunze powerheads or the Jebao WP-25's.

Cheers, Todd

I guess I will be the one to suggest the Vortech line of powerheads. They are expensive, but they are well worth it and they hold their value. I would get a couple MP10's or one MP40 for your tank. They come up for sale a lot in the used goods section.

Id just go with the Hydro knock off pwoerheads or a Hydor powerhead. There is always the next step which is the WP25 powerheads, then the tops are Vortech.
But I'd just go with the Hydor knock offs, I use them , been using em for years without issues.
For a 65g tank you should go with 1000-1300 gph to start with.

I would suggest the WP-25, at a max of 2000 g/h and the control unit you are sure to get what you need. I got mine recently for about $70 delivered via a group buy, you will have to wait a little bit if you want to save money and go the group buy route, or pay more for faster delivery.

The cost is only a little bit more than the Hydor, and that is where the comparison ends. Between the huge max volume, control, and the ability to do actual wave making you can not beat it for the price.
