I have a 125gal tank with a 35 gal sump I need help on what size return pump do I need with about a 5 foot head? Should I use the 35gal sump or go with a 55gal tank?

I'd go with the largest sump/tank you can fit in your stand...
With that said..that part doesn't have much to do with your return pump...
So...
You need a pump, that at 5ft head still has about 1250gph turnover? (I use the 10x basis..though depending on your stock you could do less)
I'm assuming this is an in sump pump?

I'll let you now firstly, I am biased..I have a waveline 12k on my 150g and LOVE it...being that it has adjustable flow...
But it also depends on what you want to spend.....

I need to figure out size overflow piping and return piping I need for my 125 gallon tank with to overflow one drilled with 2 1" holes and the other with 3 1" holes?

1" gravity fed pvc is capable of 950gph flow. 3-6 times your dt volume is all you need through the sump.
With that said, pumps to consider would be:
Quiet One 6000
Ocean Runner 3500
Eheim 1262
Iwaki 40rlxt
Pan World 200ps or 250ps

+1 to above.

That being said I have a Great Pan World 200PS I can sell you for a Great Price! :thumb:
