after alot of begging my wife decided to let me put my new 180 where her china cabinet was , now i need to plumb my return from the basement to the tank
total vertical is about 14 ft I was wondering if the reefflo snaper/dart hybrid pump would work for this and how much gph will i loose also does pluming horizontal afffect head preassure as i would really like to plumb it 10 feet horizontal so i can put the
sump in the closet

I'm not sure about the pump being big enough or not. What are the ratings on it? As for going horizontal you should be fine but each 90deg turn you make it cuts your flow drastically. Sometimes if you really oversize the pipe it helps too. For instance my parents own a farm and we have an irrigation system with about 200 feet of lift. The pump has a 3" discharge and we ran 8" pipe up to the field and it helps a bunch. Granted this is way bigger than what you are talking but I would think if you doubled the pipe outlet size of your pump you should see a big difference.

I would not recommend doubling the size of the pipe as this increases the weight of the water you have to push. I know that when you pump horizontal you should calculate one foot head loss for every three feet that you go. I am not sure if that pump that you have will be enough with out reading the specs on it. Good luck...

I would go with the Hammerhead. I have the same issue with several 90 degree elbows and about 16' of rise. The Hammerhead gets the job done (and has enough to run my reactors and frag tank as well.

I used this head loss calculator - Feature Article: Pump Head Loss Calculator - Easing System Design — Advanced Aquarist's Online Magazine

It does not have all the current pumps, but you can figure some things like Blueline pumps are the same as PanWorld.

I use a PanWorld PS240 in my basement with the same head height as you. It puts out about 1200 GPH which is just right for my 120 gal upstairs and feeds two other tanks in the basement as well. The PanWorld is a high head pump with a cutoff height of 41 ft.

The Hammerhead is a high flow pump and has a cutoff height of 23 ft. I think it would put out 3600 GPH at 16 ft which maybe more flow (20X) than you want for a 180 gal.
