Hello I purchased. Some dry rocks what do you do to clean them their pretty clean just have sand ect do I brush it off or do I rinse with freshwater or saltwater then add to tank how much rock can you add without messing up the water chemistry

Are they new or used rocks?

If new, all I would do is soak them in tap water for awhile and rinse/hose them off. Them soak them in saltwater and after a day or 2 check the water parameters. Especially for ammonia, nitrate and phosphate. BTW, test the saltwater before you add the rock so you have numbers to compare.

If you bought used rock, that's a whole different story.

I would save a bunch of saltwater from a water change in your tank and use that soak/clean the dry rock. Just stick a piece in a tub with water and swish it around a bit to knock off the dust and loose bits and then I’d pop it right into the aquarium.

I’m not saying that’s the best method, but that’s how I’d do it...
