Purigen in In-tank media basket

I was trying to run my Purigen in the middle chamber of my In-Tank media but I noticed it was floating up and not getting much water flowing through it. I assume I want as much water flowing through it as possible? Right now I’ve got it in the upper chamber under my filter floss so that it lies flat, however I think this is decreasing my flow rate.



Any suggestions?

Thank to an awesome member in this community @GoVols I started running purigen in a aquamaxx xl reactor. I have a picture on my build page but he has detailed information on how to run it onhis build page. It's a bit tricky to keep all the purigen in the reactor you won't be able to suspend it all at one time but as it gets heavier as it starts to remove nutrients you can float more. It also allows for some of it to pass through and let your live rock do its job of filtration. Any questions don't hesitate to ask

That looks like a cool system. I haven’t budgeted for a reactor at this point, but if the purigen gets heavier as it absorbs nutrients then that might solve the issue of it floating up in the media basket. I guess it’s probably not a big deal if not all the water is forced through it, like you said, it’s probably good to let the live rock do some of the filtration as well

I ran a purigen reactor on my fw before switching to reef. It takes very little flow at all to get the stuff moving.

I don't really see a problem with the bag floating unless only part of the media is actually coming in contact with the water

In my IM 20, I ran purigen in the bottom chamber in the inTank basket. Floss on top, then carbon then purigen. did not have any flow issues. How much floss do you have on top?
