Purigen is it magic?

Lemme rephrase that. I double checked and they say it's not a simple ion exchange resin, and is extremely selective for nitrogenous compounds. Chemipure and purit have something more akin to if not literally an ion exchange resin.

Your are right in that they do not say it is specifically not an anion exchange resin, but imply that it is something that leaves most of everything alone except for tannins and nitrogenous waste.

The description of Purigen doesn't sound too different from the typical tannin removal resin:

Aldex CRA is a strongly basic, type 1 anion built on a macroporous, cross-linked acrylic polymer matrix having quaternary ammonium functionality. The porous structure allows more efficient removal of large organic molecules using both adsorption and ion exchange properties to capture those contaminants. The acrylic polymer matrix allows for excellent adsorption and desorption of natural organics matter from surface water when regenerated with NaCl or an alkali solution. Aldex CRA is used in potable water applications to remove tannins or color bodies and may also be used as an organic scavenger in industrial systems. In nonwater installations Aldex CRA may be used in series flow with styrenic macroporous resins to remove a broad spectrum of organic compounds found in sugar juices and cane syrups, citric acid purification and capturing metal complexes.

Interesting. Thank you for that info. I rescind my comment :D

I think you might have solved the thread with that lol

The last time I delved in this I noted that some manufacturers recommended regenerating early and often with chloride rather than waiting for it to get really nasty and then having to use bleach (which shortens the lifespan).

I don't use the stuff otherwise I would buy some alternative tannin removal resins and see how they performed.

It's just an anion exchange resin optimized for tannins.

From Seachem site...

It is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer

I’m back to being lost, thought I was getting somewhere then
