For those who use Purigen.... Seachem says you can leave it is for months and it will turn dark brown or almost black. Mine only gets light tan to tan, never dark brown or black. What is your experience? I place it in the bottom of the filter sock in its own mesh bag. How often do your regenerate it?

Mine never turned dark brown or black, just pretty much as you described. Guess it all depends on how much stuff the purgien is pulling from the water, higher nutrient levels the darker the purgien I would think. I always left mine in for roughly 3 months.

After three months, do you bleach it and reuse? How many cycles before you replace it?

I tried bleaching it once, I know most that those that routinely use it have had no issue bleaching it, but it just feels wrong so I buy a new bag.
