Any ideas what’s going on with my purple bonsai? The tissue is receding and I am not sure what the cause is? I also lost a birds nest last week with the same issues. I have not added any new corals in almost a year so I think any kind of a hitchhiker issue.

Here are my tank parameters:
Temp 78
Calcium 400
Alk 8
Magnesium 1
Salinity 1.025
PH 8.0

Thanks

Zero is not good for sps, without nitrogen and phosphorus, they will starve. You can try to feed more, but dosing may be a better solution in your case. There are plenty of products out there that will supply both. Tropic Marin Plus NP is one of them.
What's the size of your tank and how many fish do you have?

It’s a 120 with a 40 gallon sump and I have 6 fish.

thanks for dosing suggestions also!

Agree you don’t want zero phosphates or nitrates. I’m surprised they are zero with 6 fish. Also, you will want magnesium in the 1300 range. I would frag a tip or two of that.

Depending on the size of the fish, six could be on the low side? There are several things you can do in the meantime, one is to feed your fish smaller amounts several times a day. An auto feeder is your best friend here. Fish eating throughout the day is a great way to increase nutrients to the tank. Second, if you're using gfo or other media that uptake NO3 and PO4, stop. Running your skimmer a little wet and letting it drain back into the tank is another way to help. Don't turn it off though, because of the other benefits it provides.
Depending on your experience, specific carbon dosing can really be a life saver here. That's why I suggested the TM plus NP. A lot of people get confused about the real purpose of carbon dosing or don't fully understand the reasoning behind it. Remember, corals need the building blocks to grow and thrive, carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus. If your tank is limited in providing these, then you need to create the environment in which they can be utilized.

May be a combo of newer tank, low phos, and shading from light not reaching lower branches.
Verify Salinity is NOT high and you are Not getting a false reading.
