Next green horn question. Will purple coralline naturaly occur in a reef tank or does it have to be seeded? I’m seeing some tan and light green growth on the rocks. Might be the very beginning of algae but hard to tell when I’m not sure what I’m looking at

Start of the uglies. Corraline must be introduced on frags snails rock etc.

As long as calcium levels are good, will form naturally - light plays an important role in generation of coraline

Start of the uglies?
New tanks go through an ugly stage. All of them. You’ll get an algae bloom and probably Cyanobacteria and dinoflagellates. Cyano is red slimy looking stuff and dinos are brown. As your tank matures, those problems will correct themselves but it can take months. If it’s a serious infestation, people here will be happy to help.

As long as calcium numbers are good it will grow and before you know it you’ll have a purple backdrop lol

Coralline won’t occur naturally unless introduced into your aquarium. It’s not like other algae that appears out of nowhere. If you bought some live rock, chances are you’ll have coralline on it. There are ways to increase it. It’s not like other algae where it’ll spread like wild fire. You’ll perhaps need to scrub an area where you see some and try to seed it to where you want to grow it. I’ve noticed the undersides of my rocks where little light reaches have no purple. I see some purple in your pic but it could just be lighting. However, coralline comes in many different shades.

From what I know, corals and coralline have similar needs. Keep your corals healthy and your coralline will do fine.
