My one polyp ended up melting away. The only zoas that have really fully melted on me have been purple deaths, nuc greens, and suddenly a colony of Jokers. sadly.
The nuc green turned brown, then the brown turned purple, then it died. So i cant verify that for mine, but i remember someone posting almost the sam ythread as this over at nanoreef and i think they morphed back. Not sure, but that $150 a polyp thing is a scam
These actually started when they sat alone in the sand in my other tank, a couple mos ago, and the babies on that side continued to show the morph. Thanks for the input everyone!
As far as I know they are separate species that can share pigments when in close proximity. I hadn't heard of one assuming the other's traits without the other present. This case sounds like environmental influence causing color change. How much fun would it be to buy a two face at 150 or whatever and see it revert to a 5-10 polyp? I understand that true two faces formed from both parent colonies keep the mixed colors.
I don't even have nuclear greens, although these did sit with a bunch of other zoas/palys that I got in trade for a while. One of them had some paler green palys mixed in with some nice zoas, and I liked the zoas better than the palys so I plucked them out of the frag. Maybe it picked it up then? Either way, I don't remember it being crowded in by anything else.
This is pretty common but it is still awesome nonetheless. The business selling them for $150 pp is rediculous, they will probably morph back to the original color and someone is gonna be ******.
