check this morph.. getting purple around the Mouth of the polyp... I think the purple deaths gave my nucs a black eye... Instead of the 2 face paly.. the one polyp in the back there..

Haha I didn't notice them at first either! they look like coralline encrusted live rock if you're not looking for them.

I have suspected for a while that zoas/palys that are same species can share pigmentation if they are in contact with each other. The two face is a good example, but I believe it was originally grafted somehow. Anyone know specifics? If true, perhaps the process could be helped along by piercing or slicing two neighboring polyps.

I have Nucs and PDs together and have a couple of naturally occurring Two Face polyps.

Thanks jester for confirming my thoughts. I did a thread on RC a while back about pigment sharing in zoas but hit a dead end in terms of people's experiences and knowledge. Patientzero, I assume that once an individual polyp has the traits of both parents that it would be shared with progeny, due to how zoas reproduce. My original observations came from some vietnamese dragoneyes and wham'ns that had a few oddball morphs on the border of the colonies.
Jester - it would be cool if you could frag out your two faces and see what offspring develop.

I have always been interested in trying to purposely alter colors on zoas and palys and I have a idea and will try it soon if it works great if not oh well I am just afraid if it works and it successly morphs them and the off spring that everyone will be doing it and it will get out of control lol So if it works i probably wont share how but I will share the polyps. And no im not some wierdo mad scientist lol just curious

The oringinal 2 face paly was created by slicing two palys in half and putting them next to eachother. When they healed it created the 2 face paly. Each baby from that point on was a mock of the original and wallah the 2 face paly spread like wild fire.

I have been planning on cutting a PD and NG in half and then suturing one half of each to the other. I have no idea if they will live through it but we shall see. Maybe I will do it sooner than later and post the results here.
