Hello guys,

My purple firefish looks like it has lost its mouth (?). I don't know the cause of it, but I think it got in a fight with another fish or it is some disease I don't know. It has beed this way for like 2 weeks now. It is eating nicely but is a lot shyer than before. Is there something I can do???

Thanks!

So it is still eating with this condition?

OUCH!
I can't tell from the photos if it's infected - unless it is, there isn't much you can do - but if you believe it is I would quarantine and treat him with antibiotics. My personal go-to is Furan-2 because it targets both gram-negative AND gram-positive bacteria well.

The oft-recommended Melafix, I've been learning, is gentler but sometimes as bad as useless because it targets gram-positive bacteria almost exclusively. Most aquatic bacterial infections involve gram-negative bacteria.

So was this a gradual thing or just overnight. If overnight then obviously was damaged somehow and not caused by parasites. U can try quarantine with meds but if it was from a fight or something won't do it any good especially since its been 2 Weeks. As long as u don't see anything on it like fungus or something else just leave him be. Can't grow back a mouth
