Purple Gorgonia Acclimation

Greetings, Friends,

quick question regarding a branch of purple non-photosynthetic gorgonia. I was told thatbit can’t be exposed to air when adding it to my tank. If so, how the heck do I facilitate this? thanks and be safe!

I have a red and a yellow. I had no issues attaching them to small rocks with putty before placing in the tank. They were out of the water for a few min.
