So who named the purple hornets? And when were they named?

Just curious I heard they were named by someones wife not too long ago, but another story is that they were named a long time ago. Anyone know?

Thanks

they have been around forever and people often walked by them ignoring them. Then bam as soon as they got a name they became worth $$$

Oh I know, their price tag is insane... I am just curious as to who named them originally, and how long ago that was.

reefpets named them, his source for them was from Marvin i believe.
me and Gary have had ours for 2 years now... Gary's came from Casey www.bluegrasscorals.com.... I don't have any idea where mine came from but they might've come from Casey as well... I've seen these zoas before, originally from Rev way way back, when we were still club-zoa... :)

Yeah they have been around. Too me they are not even that rare. People are just in the hype right now thinking they will have something cool if they pay $100 a polyp for something.

Yep I had them back in the day at least 3 years ago.

IMO. NOT WORTH THE PRICE. Not even close. Pictures are setting the price becuase they are not impressive in person. I have 6 polyps and blah. I'd rather look at hair algea ;)

Well send them to me then! HA!

well you either have less than ideal lighting for them, or a bad morph.

Mine look EXACTLY like the pics ive posted of them in the past, and are in fact VERY nice.

Just my opinion, but whatever i have in my tank, which came from marv are the bomb!

I know Casey came out with them, but they have been around for several years. Like I said I had them about 3 years ago.

i don't want to turn this in the circle discussion that this usually turns into, but i think all the variations in all our tanks make a difference. some of us have tanks that should be running sps, but don't, others of us have "dirty" tanks made for growing the silt growers. my tank isn't that clean, and they don't look all that impressive.

and, like jr said, different morphs are out there, too. once a coral morphs, can it morph back? i don't know.

I have seen these things listed every where now and I believe that many people do not have the real purple hornets. Since they have become high in demand many people are selling the Caribbean Zoas as Purple Hornets. Macro photos make them look alike but when they are setting next to one another they are completely different!! I am talking talking directly about anyone in this thread because I have no idea what you might have. But, many people have purchased purple hornets from people and they think that they are purple hornts but in reality they are the ones below. The patterns are the same but the color is far from a purple hornet and the size of the ones below are about a thirt of the polyp size of a purple hornet.

Again, just because some of us like myself and Junior like them does not mean that everyone will. Its all about opinion. I like many coral that other dont. Many people will disagree with this and it just goes to show how opinions are but I dont care much for Chalice and others absolutely lova them.

Back to the topic, my wife is the one that named them Purple Hornets.
