Purple Puffs on new Live Rock

This Purple stuff came on the live rock I recently picked up. It is growing and getting more color / size as time goes on. Any Ideas on what it is ?

Coraline algae ftw!

I have a lot of it popping up. Even more than yesterday, it is now on different rocks. Is that normaly for a 3 day old tank? I though the Coraline came later. Or did I just get lucky with good Live Rock?

Did you buy this rock from another reefer? It looks to me like an epoxy that has been colored to look like coralline algae. Reefers use this for various purposes, including sticking rocks together or securing frags to the rocks. Your description of "puffs" doesn't match up with straight coralline algae: that usually lays flat and looks like the rock turning purple. However, the spots you photographed look like epoxy. They appear to be tiny spheres that were flattened out as something was affixed to the rockwork.

Either that, or it was a white epoxy that happens to be particularly attractive to coralline algae.
