Hey, so this coral was doing really well then i went on a trip and came back to a bit of an Algae problem thats now taken care of but it had covered this guy while i was gone. It seems to have lost coloring but still has some to it. Im wondering if you guys thing its still alive or if the algae that covered it killed it while i was gone.

Most of the time when algae covered a coral it covers and grows in dead parts. From the pic it’s probably a goner but maybe a little is alive well and it will slowly regrow assuming the initial issue is resolved. My purple scroll has never showed any issues like that. Cross your finger and hope there’s enough alive for it to rebound but it’s not looking good.

That's what im afraid of. Its still got a bit of purple left but its very dull in color. It has not changed in about a month so im hopeful that it might but i have low hopes. Im not the most experienced with encrusting corals but all other LPS have been doing great, i have another that i believe also got covered but i believe that perished. It was a real bad case of Bubble algae that tried to take over my tank and put up a good battle but i believe for now i have won as its not returned for a few weeks now.

Use the soft toothbrush and gently remove the algae and keep the algae off.
Correct your algae issue.
Find a place for it an leave it alone.
It may take a few months to come
back or it may die.
I had a lepto that died or so I thought as only a pinhead was left on the frag plug you can see in the pic.
Instead of removing it I left it alone.
It went from a pinhead to fully encrusting the dead area and behond.
Here it is now 10 months later.
Similar thing happened to my scroll as the center disapeared. I just left it alone and it has made a good come back so far.
Second pic is the scroll and both pics just taken.

Thank you for sharing, i cleaned ot off right away and just did a second scrub on it today to make sure the rest was off. Its very Dull purple but this gives me some hope that it may recover. My other i havent removed yet but i may give it a bit more time just in case. I got these from the WWC subscription boxes and i had initially asked for no encrusting types but i have them so im trying haha.
