I could be wrong, but I dont think that a Sea Whip does anything for excess nutrient export in an aquarium tank? It may take up some, but not anything like a macro algae. Not really a beneficial addition to a tank, just pretty. Don't hide it away in your sump 
Show it off! They do need regular feedings of zooplankton. I fed my rusty gorgonian about three times a week with reef roids and it kept it happy and growing. Good luck!
