Looks like cyno. You need to test water parameters so we can see whats going on. What type of filteration are you using? Do you have a skimmer? Most algae problems are caused by excess nutrients wheter that be from overfeeding of fish and corals. Also phosphates can also be a factor. What do you use for water changes? Let us know these things and we can help.

Biocube 29 with no mods...except I do use a water polisher type pad ontop of my filter cartiage..reasoning being that I heard the bioballs are a nitrate factory if any solids get in there..I'm running about 80 deg for temp and had/have a kinda string/hair algae issue, got a cuc and they have been working on it...I don't have a reef test kit so I will have to take a sample to my lfs...my friend says it could be because I use tap for top off...but I have been slacking on getting a filter for that...but I do use prime...I think I even over dosed it just to be safe...

Kill the lights and stop feeding until it dies off. Usually less then a week.
Then continue with less lighting and feeding and adjust to where the corraline, corals, macro thrive but the cyano doesn't come back.
(It may take a couple of times but that will work).

Cool....with this black out procedure should I cover the tank as well or is out side light ok...and should I perform water changes while doing the blackout or wait till it dies off theen do a series of pwc's
