Purple stringy stuff in tank

I have some purple stringy stuff (algae?) growing on one of my live rocks. This rock has been in the tank for about a year. Any idea what it is? Is it harmful?

Appears to be poriferan sponge. Can we get a clearer /larger shot to verify ?

Yes- much better pic. Purple gorgonian. Very hardy and likes moderate water flow and light

Oh yeah. I have a couple of large pieces in my main tank

Lucky you to have it just grow out of nowhere,, I wish I had a nice tree like that for my seahorses
