Purple stuff chaeto help

So I have had chaeto in my sump for about 4 months now. It never grew it actually might be 75% of the size from when I got it. I was having trouble keeping it contained so I made filter before the next chamber. The next chamber already had a good bit on the bottom anyway. There has been this purple stuff growing on the main part for a couple months but it was hard to get a picture of but now the stuff that made it to the next chamber made it easily visible. Even though the chaeto isnt growing the pod population has grown in leaps and bounds. Also the purple stuff is only in the sump nothing in the main display. What is it and what do I do. It seems anytime I try to correct something I make something else worse happen. The purple seems a bit darker than the picture shows honestly.

I second that on cyano. Also if your charting isn’t growing you may not have enough light on it. What is the light in your display vs the light in your sump?

I just switched the light in my sump. Well both of them I had a sump like that wasnt doing anything, but It still isnt. I moved the orbit marine to sump when i got ai prime for display. I'm debating just doing a lights out on sump for a week to kill it all and just buy new chaeto when it dies off is that a good/bad idea?
