Hello,

Just curious - I've had a Purple tang in my 150g reef for about 9 months and he has been doing fine. Eats frozen food and Norti from a clip every day, doesn't seem stressed, etc. Alk is 8.2/Ca 438/Mg 1420 and other parameters are fine. I do run a carbon reactor - but have always done that.

I just noticed some discoloration on his sides near the lateral line. Trying to decide if this is the start of something significant, and if so - what to do?

Thanks,

Pat

That does look like the start of HLLE. Take a look at my article about it here (sorry, I’m on my phone and can’t link to it).

Thanks very much, Jay. I can remove Carbon and hopefully, that will help (I understand from the article that isn't a guarantee). I also have a Tomini, with no signs of issues. I'll check Nitrates too (I don't routinely test that if the tank is doing well).
