Hi there - so many of these threads are out there but I wanted to just get some expert opinions on what could be affecting this purple tang. It's been in my QT for almost two weeks. About 10 days ago I noticed ich, so the tank got brought up - slowly - to 2.00 with copper power. Spots have all gone - everyone in the tank is eating great and this purple will chow as much food as I put in there.

Just noticed one eye is clouding up with what appears to be a very cloudy spot or something inside. Other eye is fine. Nobody else exhibiting similar things.

Does this look like an injury or something else? If something else, what should I treat it with that would be OK with the copper power?

Tank is a 29g biocube. I'm currently mixing some copper into a clean 5g for a water change. I can do more as well very easily if that is something to do. Ammonia reader = notta. I didn't test nitrites but I'm assuming they're decently high although I've been doing water changes.

Thank you!

I've seen this occur in several zebrasoma tangs. May be injury related but usually appears to be a side effect of the copper treatment. You can back off the copper and see if clarity of the eye improves or try Kanaplex or Epsom salt treatments while treating with copper.

Thanks. Is there a way to know if this is flukes? Should I FW dip him at this point or see how things progress?

Its possible the eye issue is fluke or parasite caused. Possibly a reaction from the copper. FW dip will confirm flukes. Otherwise treat with Prazi to be safe.

I am not a fish disease expert. But I would do a FW dip and then treat with general cure when the copper treatment is over. I basically do this procedure on all new fish.

I had introduced a yellow tang to my tank recently and his eye went cloudy after a water change. It cleared up on its own :)

It's the stress and or your water quality. Maintaining both of those, it will clear up in no time.

Well. Maybe the best course is action would be a good size water change and watching it for a day. Generally speaking, it’s better to not mix prazi and copper right? It can be done but could be problematic?

I’m always hesitant to do freshwater dips. Seems like it’s a lot of stress for the fish. But just a few minutes in fresh RODI that matches ph and temp?

Same exact thing that happened to mine FW dip him then add him back and dose with Praxipro, Kanplex, and Herbtana

Give fish Freshweater bath, then an Epsom salt bath. Thereafter, you can use melafix Marine ( available at most petsmarts). Will help heal nicelty
Maintain good tank water quality and check ammonia level as it is generally associated with cloudy eye
