Hello,
I have two purple tangs, only one appears to be impacted. The other fish are all fine. I’m not sure if this is slime coat irritation or what. I don’t think it’s lateral line... Hoping it just goes away, but wanted to see what the experts thought. Multiple pics because it’s tough too shoot. Both sides are impacted. Thanks!

Could be brook or an infection, I’m not entirely sure the photos are a bit tough to make out. How long did it take to progress as we see here?

I only noticed it tonight. No introductions of any sort to the tank except snails I quarantined for a full month, put them in six weeks ago. Nothing on any other fish. I could try to get better pictures if you want, but it actually looks pretty similar to the photos, very nondescript.

So I have a purple that had been showing similar including those other off-white dots that appears to be on yours also. I am dealing with flukes. A freshwater dip could show if your are also dealing with those? Look for those sesame seed shapes dropping off of him at about 3 minutes in to the dip. Are you seeing any other symptoms like head shaking, scratching or darting action on him? How is his breathing otherwise?

Also- have those divots on his rear been there all along or is that a camera thing making that “trench?”

Not sure guys. Don’t see any scratching. I cranked the lights and used my wife’s better camera... see if this helps any.

I also managed to get at least one good fun shot in...

I got some more photos. Hoping to see if anyone has thoughts. To me it almost looks like sunburned skin peeling off. There are no white spots on the fish, if you see any it’s on the glass or sand.

I did spray some aiptasia with kalk paste yesterday, is a chemical burn plausible? Or do you guys think I have an infectious disease to try to stop from spreading?

To my eye, as 4FordFamily mentioned, it looks more like Brooklynella than anything else.

Brook would require removal of all fish, and a six-week fallow period to eradicate. It's capable of being a swift killer . . .

How long can brook be present in a system and not manifest? I’m just struggling to comprehend how it could have been introduced.
