I believe is just nutrients to help the good algae grow.from reading the ingredients it is just calcium and some trace elements
Salt mixes probably have most, if not all, nutrients needed. If your keeping LPS or SPS I think your already providing the right conditions for coralline algae
I use it. I bought the 16 oz bottle a long time ago and I still have some left. Every time I clean my tank I add it, like once every week or once every two weeks. I didn't have that much coralline algae so I bought a small live rock covered in purple coralline algae and and used purple up and in like a month you will see the difference.Do any of you use purple up? What do you think of it?
Are you a chemist? Maybe your new nickname can be Heisenberg.lolThe calcium and alkalinity that are supposedly in it in the form of fine aragonite are not useful for that purpose. The aragonite will not dissolve in seawater. It is just an expensive type of fine sand that can mislead testing if still suspended in the water as it will dissolve in an alk test and maybe in a calcium test too.
The other ingredients may or may not be useful for you, just like any other cocktail of elements that is intended for dosing to a tank that may need some and already have too many of others.
