Putting together good clean up crew

Looking on brs to see what kinda sand theyve got. I dont really like the crushed d coral anyway. Gobies arent compatible with it either

I used marine depot sand bed calculator to determine how much it would take to have 4". it says 70lbs, but you might want to get 80. In my experience the sand will settle and compact about 1/2" or so over time.

I wish you would have bought sand when I suggested it a month ago lol....

I think Drfostersmith has good prices also and they dont require a $175 purchase to qualify for free shipping. If you're making a big purchase BRS is great. I was going to suggest the reefrocks.net forum but you're part of it already. I knew I recognized that Usename Gemini!

Wow 80 pounds lol hey i still need that rodi unit jeesh. Ive only got about 150 bucks

I have mixed feelings about the rodi unit for you. For the first year I used distilled water @ 80 cents per gallon. 2 gallons per week for top off, 4 gallons every 2 weeks for water change. That costs me $170 per year. The to filters and membrane need to be changed yearly around $100. The di resin has to be replaced also, another $60 per year.....

You can get rodi water at most lfs cheaper. And I don't have to wait for my rodi unit to make water in the case of emergency.

I got all the sand for my biocube from there.

I got an RO/DI with 2 separate product water outputs. One for drinking and the other goes through the DI filter for the tank. If you need good drinking water its the way to go! I took out the little trap from the faucet and it is disgusting to find what we are drinking, and that's NY water one of the best tasting waters in the country. Now that I live in Jersey, water here taste terrible. RO is a necessity.

With the amount of water I was using I found it more economical to just use jugs of distilled water. As for the drinking water.... I'm sure Jersey water probably isn't any good. Where I'm at the tapwater is just fine for drinking. The water district doesn't have to add much of anything to our water supply.

I use about 6 gallons a week lol

Bull! With all the water changes you have been doing you go through 20 gallons per week!
Ok, I will quit busting your chops..

I don't know what your lfs charges, but around here its 50 cents a gallon. That's $3 per week. If it were me I would chose the sand over the rodi at the moment. You could stick it out for a few months buying rodi from lfs or distilled at the supermarket until you have the funds. The rodi isn't going to help your situation at the moment, but the deep sand bed will.

I really don't think I will ever come to the point where I will not have to buy anything for my tanks. Selling/trading frags for stuff definitely helps lighten the load one you get there. My tank is just 19 months, but I have sold over $900 in frags that have come out of it.

:jaw:

I got to get fraggin!

Haha! Online is a whole different story. People here see my frags in a lfs and go crazy! people online don't see "neon lightning make you wanna slap your momma paly" and won't buy anything. Its a name game online. I sold $600 locally and everything I took to the lfs sold within 72 hours. The owner burned me twice so I quit going up there. I had sale threads on here for over a month and was asking around $20 per frag plug covered in polyps and only sold to 4 people.

Bah you all talking about your horrible drinking water. I live in the boonies, have well water, and its ORANGE! No joke. Lol a water softener and rodi in the kitchen is in future plans anyway.

Ok ok. 6 stage 100 gpd pressure tank, pressure gauge, tds meter, 2 outputs.... 153 bucks? Whats the BAD news? Lol

LOL! A Bit overzealous. No TDS thats seperate. You could get an Inline or a pen. You rarely check it so which ever is cheaper. I went with a pen.

Dang you all must think im growing money in the garden. Buy this rodi buy some sand get some better lignts. Hey I make 10 bucks an hour lol just so you know
