Planning the installation of my mixing station and I’ve done a lot of research here on R2R. All seem to be built out with 2 containers: 1 for RODI and 1 for FSW. I’m not understanding the benefit of the RODI container.
What if I use 1 container for RODI which I use to mix my salt in for WC. I then plan to have a small 10 gal container for just RODI that I plan to use for ATO. If I tee off the output from my RODI unit and have 1 go to the large container for my FSW and the other to the ATO for top offs-both controlled by low/high water sensors, I don’t see a down side. Other than having to wait a bit for the large container to fill up so I can mix and replenish the FSW once exhausted, what am I missing?

Thanks.

Let me take at least part of that for you... ‘Why do most people use two containers for a mixing station?’ I would say the convenience factor is to always stay one step ahead. Make RODI in one tank, move it on down the line to the tank where it will mix; you will have freed-up all of the first tank to make a full batch of new RODI.

OK, I get it. Thought there was a piece of the puzzle I was missing. Thanks.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I think OP might find this useful.

looking at picking up some tanks at the local tractor supply. they have the ones you have... how difficult is it to clean the legs?

Lol. In re-reading and re-thinking my answer, you probably meant INSIDE (?) If so, please, NO soapy water! Ahahahahaha!

I suppose one could use a long handled brush with plastic bristles, but when the valves are opened to allow the pump to recirculate the saltwater, it’s a pretty strong flow— so I don’t think anything will really stick inside the legs for long.

I really like this setup. Where did you get those tables from, they look pretty heavy duty.

lol, yes inside. :) so just reach in as far as you can and wipe anything off? do you rinse with RO? or just hose water then fill?
I built mine is a way that I can completely remove the containers, hose and wipe them down outside and let them air dry for a day before putting it all back together. I just used rubbermaid storage containers. There is a lid for the RO container on the right.

In setting up 2 separate containers for RODI and salt water, how long is the water good for while sitting there if you place the containers in the garage where it can get very hot? I am trying to design a setup now.

I might not have an accurate answer for that, but if you do an R2R “search” or even start a thread with the question, “How long can I store RODI water in a hot garage?”, hopefully you will get a good answer :)

BRS has a YT video on this. Bottom line there was no degradation in the SW when stored over time.
