im going to have a closed system filter and the pump im thinking about using has smaller threads than what im plumbing with. Would it be ok to just downsize the pipe to the threads of the pump and then after the pump make it go back up. For those who dont get what im asking heres an example.

3/4 inch pvc from tank>3/4 inch to 1/2 inch reducer>pump>3/4 inch to 1/2 inch reducer> 3/4 inch pvc back to tank.

Could the pump still work and pull water through correctly even though i would be downsizing at the pump ports.

Yes, and it’s a good idea to use a piece of tubing to connect pump to plumbing to isolate vibration

Increasing the plumbing after the pump is beneficial, so yes.
HOWEVER, decreasing plumbing size is NOT recommended.

Yes it will work but keep in mind you will probably loose some volume of the water going into your tank because of the narrower diameter. If your pump flow is rated substantially more than the amount of water flow than you need , it won’t be an issue.
