Is there any reason people don't use PVC Compression Couplings when plumbing their systems? I'm just about to plumb a new tank and was considering this coupling due to some space constraints.

Explain? I'm not sure what this buys you over hard plumbed....maybe with a union, if needed???

It's a much smaller diameter compared to the union couplings that are typically used.

I'd say probably price. Unions seem to be a cheaper option, unless you go with a tru union ball valve or something. They will work but are pricey.

Compression fittings whether pvc or brass is usually 10x the cost and offers no performance advantage

I was looking for the same info a couple days ago and found pretty much nothing on them. I am re-doing the plumbing one of my tanks since I moved and Lowes had these cheaper than a regular union of the same size.

I've never used them before but the things I like about them i it allows for some flexibility (fudge factor for me not measuring exactly correct), a little smaller outside diameter than the union, and does not reduce inside diameter since it goes over the pipe.

On the return, I felt like since the pipe is not secured tightly (to the wall or stand etc) to keep it from pushing apart I would probably just go with a reg union on it.

I decided to use them on my drains lines given there is little pressure.

I was curious also.. I guess I was just wanting to make sure they were 'reusable' For 3/4" they were cheaper than a union and then the screw in fittings for the unions..

I used compression fittings on my overflow. Simply because I can remove them without having to cut pipe. This makes them easier to reuse and also makes it easier to reuse the bulkheads.

Nonsense. 1” slip/slip union is $5.64 and a 1” compression coupling is $5.32. Here at Home Depot now

A union is a flat face to a flat face. Undo the ring and remove it. The compression fitting require clearance to slip the ends out.
Which would probably be fine as long as you account for it
