Hi guys! I'm new to this website. I need your guys help. I have a 55 gallon fish tank with a 30 gallon sump, with one external overflow, my pump is 800 gallons an hour, and I need to know what diameter of the PVC tube I need to use to have a good flow. If somebody could help, it would be great! Thanks!

I have a 55 gallon with a similar pump. 1" schedule 40 was actually noisy. So I tried 1" schedule 80 and it quieted down a lot. The inner diameter of schedule 40 is 1" but it's 1 1/8" on schedule 80 (thinner wall). Outer diameters are the same so they are interchangeable with the fittings

Your results are still very possible, but...

Sched 80 PVC is for high pressure and has thicker walls, and a slightly smaller internal diameter.

Sched 40 has thinner walls, and a larger internal diameter.
