I hard plumbed my tank about 2 months ago to run my overflow to a basement sump and have had no issues.

Today I was looking for plumbers tape for a bathroom project (luckily) and noticed water in my cabinet and I saw it: one of my couplings cracked. I have no idea how it cracked, the only thing that has changed was I turned my return off yesterday and back on. I have a feeling that somehow that pressure was the final stresser as the puddle would have definitely leaked out of the cabinet if it was prolonged.

That being said.... Anyone have any ideas why it may have cracked? I used the typical all purpose cement and primer. I also put all purpose cement on the outside (after everything was dry and ran for a while without leaks, just as an extra precaution)

Couplers will crack if stressed to the side. (Pull out a pipe by moving it side to side) Also the clamps can put a lot of pressure if over tightened.

The pipe hasn't been touched and the clamps are on a different fitting (barb fitting didn't crack). It has me stumped

Manufacturing defect. They might send you a new one. (joke)

If the barb was threaded into the fitting it could have been over-tightened originally and eventually stressed.

You mean there isn't a 10 year warranty?

I recently added 4 new barbed fittings to my aquarium recently plumbing in a new UV outside the cabinet. After reading your post and responses to it, I had to crawl out of bed and run downstairs check mine!

If the barb was threaded into the fitting it could have been over-tightened originally and eventually stressed.
If it was the female coupling in front that cracked then that'd be my guess also. There is a reason why teflon tape, for example, is not recommended for plastic fittings because it increases the risk of cracking the female fittings. It can take a while for the stresses to actually crack the plastic.
