Hello! I have a marine x waterbox 110.4 and was wondering if I could use a pvc sheet to make a sump lid. I have some spray and don't want it to get on my stand. which one should I use? Thank you!

Pvc sheet? What kind of pvc sheet? Like the pvc foam board? You could do Polycarbonate or Cell cast Acrylic. You could also do ABS or HDPE marine board. Polycarbonate will be the least likely to warp out of it and acrylic. All of the above are chemically inert to saltwater.

Polycarbonate is the most common material for lids. I’d avoid acrylic as it warps. If PVC foam board doesn’t warp, but it isn’t very strong. Proper PVC sheet could work.

Polycarbonate is what I would go with if given a choice. It can be cold formed also. It’s highly durable also. Can be bonded also. It can be a bit pricey though. Haha! But so is everything else in this hobby:p

Marine grade puck board would be good too it routers nice too if you wanted to do a inset

Okay perfect would you recommend me putting it over the whole sump including the ato chamber or just the sock section and skimmer section? Thank you!

Awesome! Can I cut polycarbonate with a router?

Yes!!!! It has excellent machining capabilities!!!
It can be cut with a table saw using a blade for plastic. It can be machined also. CNC, end mill, etc..
Could even use a jigsaw to cut out shapes. I’d read up a bit on “working with it” before cutting!

Well, it’s up to you!!! The more you cover, the less evaporation. Would quieten things down a bit if there’s any water splashing also. I prefer to keep my ATO covered and sock area also. Don’t run socks, but still cover the area. That just me though! I run a closed top tank with lids, so evaporation is minimal. It’s really personal choice!
