Pyramid butterfly taking a turn for the worst. HELP.

I got a pyramid butterfly and a female lineatus wrasse. I placed both in my cycled qt. Both looked happy and healthy and they began eating on day 2.

I have been doing 5 gallon water cha he's every other day to keep the water params good. I feed heavily with high quality foods including live black worms. I also have a feeder doing 2x a day with spectrum pellets.

The lineatus does alot of hiding and sheltering in the corner. The butterfly was up front and active. On day 5 I noticed some white bacteria looking substance on his pectoral fins. His white body and discolored white spots. Today (day 7) his tail is missing large parts, he's hiding in the pic and he didn't eat.

I took pics.

What is this and how can I treat. Could the lineatus be bullying him.

the tail could be due to an injury/aggression, bacteria or fungus. Either way you may want to give it an acriflavine bath and may neeed antibiotics. Is there any redness or any kind of growth around the tail?

White spots could be ich or velvet. Any other symptoms, rapid breathing, flashing?

There is deffinetly rapid breathing. It doesn't look like ich. I'm not sure about velvet.

If I head out to the local outsmart (all that I have available to me) what should I pick up to treat with. All I have is prazi pro, methylene blue, and amquel for ammonia.

The combination of Furan-2, MetroPlex and KanaPlex has worked well for a wide range of bacterial issues. I don't know whether your Petsmart has all those on hand, but they're good to have around.

In the photo where he's nearly head-on, I'm seeing discrete lumps on his body. Have you treated with Prazi-Pro yet? Do you think he might survive a freshwater dip to check for Prazi-resistant flukes?

NFG (nitrofuracine green powder) works really well on Butterfly fish with bacterial infections.

I haven't done prazi pro yet. I wanted to strengthen the fish before treating.

I also haven't done any dips. Just out of the bag and into the qt.

I’m guessing an infection is at play and perhaps velvet as the original cause. It’s hard to tell from the media but I’d at least treat for infection as suggested by @Maritimer and @Big G

I tested ammonia and it is high. I did a 75% change and dosed ammequel. I think the heavy feeding over ran the bacteria.

I dosed methylene blue as I had it on hand. I'm going to do 10 gallon water changes for the next few days while they are in methylene treatment. Then I will do 5 gallon changes after that.

Should I look into an antibiotic for after the methylene? Petco didn't have much. I can get out to my fish store later this week hopefully.

If your only source is a big box store, api general cure does contain metro and praziquantel.

Ok they had a 24hr soak in methylene blue. I went out to my fish store and got some supplies.

I came home and pulled him out of the qt into a container and he had dark wiggling spots all over him. Looks like the methylene dyed the flukes blue! He got a 5 minute fw bath then back into a methylene blue bath for 60 mins.

I bleached everything in the qt and rinsed well. Refilled with tank water. The butterfly and the wrasses went into the sterile qt.

I dosed the qt with Dr. Tim's one and only and prazi pro. I couldn't find an ammonia tag locally so I will continue with 10 gallon a day water changes. (50%)

Should I redose prazi pro after each water change? Can I dose antibiotics with prazi pro?

I have furan 2 and kanaplex.

I have nfg coming in the mail next week as well. Does nfg kill bacteria like methylene blue?

From National Fish Pharmacy: Nitrofurancine Green is an Anti- microbial, anti- protozoan, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal. Wide spectrum. Good for newly arrived fish in quarantine situations. Also good for healing wounds and ammonia burn on newly arriving fish.
