Ok, so what do you all think of this pyramid butterflyfish? He's had the 2 spots on his tail since I got him, which was about 6 weeks ago. Once I saw the spots I put him in 2.2ppm copperpower treatment for the last 4+ weeks. Unfortunately, as you can see, the spots have not gone away, which makes me wonder if these are natural spots on his tail fin and not ich. Honestly, I'm so hesitant to put anything in my DT that is even questionable, so I figured I'd get some help.

Any insight you all might be able to provide would be much appreciated. Thanks.

PS if it is lymphocytis - its not treated with copper - copper will weaken his/her immune system - and may be prolonging the lymphocytes (which is a virus)

Lumpho. Very common with butterflies. Nothing you can do but feed good foods.

And STOP THE COPPER
Then in the main display they will go... I always run copper after I get new fish. I've been burned one too many times, so everything gets treated before going into the DT. He eats like a pig, so hopefully moving will help him get over it. Thanks!

If you have completed 4 weeks of copper then I agree you can remove the copper. I do also agree with the lympho diagnosis. Lympho is not much of an issue and should subside over time with a healthy diet and pristine water.

In the future I would still advise you use your normal copper (or whatever you use) protocol on new additions to protect your current livestock in your display.

Yep, after having gone through 2 separate rounds of ich and the time associated with it, nothing will ever go in my tank again without being prophylactically treated. Thanks again for all the help.

Yep - hopefully I didnt give you the idea that you shouldn't have used copper - I didnt mean it - but I did mean stop it now. And BTW - My guess is that though necessary in the QT routine you use - it may have caused the Lymphocystis to persist longer than it might have. It looks, though like a healthy nice fish. Good luck with it

I didn't take it that way since the OP had posted the fish had been in copper for 4 weeks+.

For what it's worth I see lympho on most butterflies and some angels most of the time during copper. I have never had a fish that wasn't able to overcome the virus once in an established med free tank. :)
