My tank is currently cycling with cured live rock and tonight while looking at the tank I noticed what appears to be tons of pyramid snails. But is that possible when I have no larger snails for them to prey on? Anything I can do about the snails in the meantime?

Edited to add: I work at the store I got this live rock from and Ive never seen these snails before so I'm not sure what to think.

When you get home take some pictures of the snails. Collonista is another species of tiny snail that do breed quite rapidly and eat algae not snails or clams. There are a few other species too and even the juveniles of some snails we keep that brees in the aquarium

Apologies, these were the best I could do. All I have is a cell phone camera.

Those do look like pyramidals....with no host they will die off...might take awile with live rock theres probably other snails...stomatellas and such that you dont see. Ill call the expert but imo i would remove as seen.

If you want to get rid of them, get a melanurus wrasse. He'll wipe them out.

Rissoid snail?
Any way to tell the difference without a scope? They don't appear to be nocturnal (they came out more when I put a bright light over the tank)

Only a 10 gallon so maybe a little small for that

Thought of another little experiment to try- I threw an algae tab in the tank to see if the snails eat it. I assume pyramid snails would ignore it and certiths would eat it.

Results of the algae tab test: Totally ignored by the tiny white snails.

Results of the live bait test: It's been a day since I added a certith snail to my tank and there's been no sign of the pyramid snails on it. Actually, I haven't seen the supposed pyramid snails at all in a few days....
