I think I am about to learn my lesson about having a quarantine tank. My local fish stores are kind of pathetic when it comes to frags and the prices they charge for them. I don't think it is fair to charge $60 for a single polyp frag for very typical specimens.

Two weeks ago I stopped over at a new Pet Warehouse and they had a substantial frag tank with each frag listed at 12.99. I purchased 21 frags and two 40+ zoa rocks covered in amazingly colors for $30 each.

I dipped a few of the weaker looking specimens and didn't see anything of concern come off so I did the unthinkable. I put all of the frags on frag plates and put them in the display tank.

Two weeks later I am starting to put the frags on new tiles and mounting them in position when I notice what looks like flat little worms on one of the plugs. It just so happens to be I have no idea which coral was the culprit. I spent hours getting everything attached and I could have introduced disaster in my tank.

Lesson to all of this ? I should have a QT tank and I should have dipped my frags (all of them). I am hoping for the best but fearing the worst.

Quarantine is always best practice. That being said, there are several natural predators for flat worms and not all flat worms are bad. Can you get a pic of them? They may be easy to get cleared up. ;)

if they are red or clear they arent that bad a mandarin or wrasse would have a tasty little snack

I dont qt anything... my experiance says it stresses the animal more than it is worth....

flat worms are easy to get rid of. If you have a small population look at flat worm exit. If you have a large population you can still use flat worm exit you just have to be careful cause the die off will cause nutrients to overload. Used correctly it is VERY effective

Totally agree with you. Speaking from personal experience as I too have been the victim of a pathetic LFS-lol.
