QT ammonia spike (with fish)

The ammonia badge in the current pic looks to be in normal range. Agree with power head or gyre agitating surface, is that a 20tall or 29 gallon?

1k gyre worked well in a 29 gallon I had, don’t think it went above 50% and really moved the water around

Yeah which is why I was super shocked when I tested yesterday afternoon and ammonia was so high! Did about a 35% water change yesterday afternoon - just tested the water and both were cut in half with ammonia at .2 and nitrites at .5 (which I know are still too high), but moving in the right direction!

Add a small powerhead. I doubt there is enough flow in there. QT tanks really need a lot of flow, in my experience, otherwise you get oxygen issues, bacterial blooms, etc. Your AIO or HOB filter is not enough. Water needs to be lively and blowing things around.

Ok I’ll look into that. I actually replaced the stock return pump that came with it with a sicce .5 pump which was a bit stronger but still fit in the back area with the heater, and was hoping that’d do the trick with the 2 return nozzles, but maybe not! Thanks for the advice

So just tested again and ammonia is still at .2 but nitrites jumped back up to near 1 and the water really clouded up again today. Should i do another water change?
