Can I use Marine Pure ceramic bio media spheres in a QT tank utilizing Cupramine copper?
Will the media absorb the copper?
Also is it best to have the QT with a lower salinity then the display for ease of osmoregulation?

TIA

Yes you can works well.
Not sure the copper binds to em. They are cheap so I’d toss em personally.
And you match the salinity of the qt to the bag generally and then while in qt bring the salinity up to match the display tank. Usually that’s the last step in qt.

Thanks saltyfilmfolks.
I'm actually pulling them out of the display and into a QT. In regards to the salinity, I was thinking of keeping it lower at about 1.020 so that they have an easy time regulating the whole osmo thingy, any thoughts?

Yea it’s a good idea to seed them well in the DT. But then tosss em.

The osmo thingy is sooo debated. Many get the fish and match the water in the bag and slowly after the meds bring it up to DT salinity.

If the fish is in 026 when you get it , not sure I’d slowly lower it then raise it again later.
As far as benefits of doing it that way, no clue and really have read noting about it

That media will absorb copper and will make medication dosing hard to maintain at certain level.
Try using pure ceramic rings with non porous surface.

Copper binds to ceramics ? Do you have a link to that info?
Also that would just leave the bacteria to coat the outside of the media and have no real surface area to form. No?

I use some media pure balls from DT each time I setup QT. I put them in a AquaClear HOB filter with a fresh sponge. ( 70 i think) . Works very well. I also use a seachem alert disk just to be safe. Its all cheap enough to toss after use. I waste a few bucks each QT but its worth it to me

Are you dosing copper in the QT with the Marine Pure?

I used copper on a previous QT. I have a copper test and the level measured correct based on the amount I added. I didnt see any drop. That said the fish did not make it. I have the worst luck with tangs.

If this fish shows issues I plan to use CP, not a fan of copper. The only proactive treatment I may use is Prazipro. I think its fairly mild.

Copper itself does not bind to non porous ceramic itself. There are many reports from other forums I cant link here where porous media was used and copper was absorbed or lessened in strength.

once the porous ceramic media is in the tank, organisms can add calcium carbonate as in coralline algae, precipitate abiotically or organic films might build up some copper as well.

For that reason alone I suggested non porous ceramic rings. Yes non porous rings will only have small surface area but it wont have the problems indicated above. Chances are rare though.

I’d need proof to belive that.
