So I just want to be sure I am ready to add fish to my QT. It's been up and running for over a week. Bottom is bare - has one piece of live rock and I added bacteria. I also used 10 gallons of premixed water with bacteria in it. Tested water daily - everything is reading zero. First two fish I want to add are clowns.

Am I ready to add them? Am I missing a step? I have 10 gallons of salt ready to go if I need to do a water change.

My QT tank is a 20 gallon long with an HOB filter.

THANKS!

It should be fine as long as you were adding an ammonia source for bacteria to use. Best proxy would be nitrates.

You can also add more bacteria after you add fish to be safe. The rock may have to go out if you medicate the tank.

I like to cycle my qt just as you would a display. Meaning adding an ammonia source, as @EmdeReef stated, to make sure my bacteria has colonized. You can play the game of continuing testing for ammonia or use an ammonia alert badge, do water changes, use prime, and add more bacteria when necessary. The 2nd way gets alot of people in trouble.
