looking for something for a 10 gallon QT for soft corals. Any suggestions?

I use the kessil a150w amazon sun. I think since it is for observation you want a whiter spectrum. Blue tends to hide stuff. I have a uv flashlight for night observation when looking for creepy crawlys. I highly recommend having a seperate tank qt for fish and inverts, but the fish dont need a big light at all. I keep some zeolites in the hob marineland filter too to keep any amonia issues at bay and i keep a seachem amonia alert in there on the back glass. Excuse the mess, i just got back from work travel and i need to clean the qt.

How long do you qt inverts?

Im super paranoid so i go 90 days. I think 72 is the length you really need to go and even that is for the most extreme ich lifecycle that almost never happens. 3 months is just a nice round number so i mark my calender.

Im actually going to be using the qt for chaeto soon lol. 90 days for a green ball in qt as well.

How do you keep inverts alive in a qt for that long? I do a week or two with several large water changes.

Im changing 4 gallons of the 10 every weekend. Sometimes i miss a weekend so i do 6 gallons the next time. That handles the nutrient export as well as major and minor element replenishment. I use the blue bucket red sea salt as it has balanced calc, alk, and mag and proper levels of 31 trace elements. I dont want to foul the water with actual feedings so i use the small reef energy kit from red sea and add a few drops daily. If you overfeed it can still get nasty, but this stuff wont leave a rotting pellet in the tank for a week. If you order the reef chilli feeding bottles from brs the lids fit perfectly on the small reef energy bottles and you can count drops when feeding. Start with 8 drops of each daily and adjust accordingly based on water quality and coral response.

I also dip the corals in bayer insect killer then coralrx during quarantine multiple times and scrub the coral bases with a soft bristled toothbrush a few times or if they get any algae on them. I also use hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizing dip on occasion . Some corals respond better than others to this. I run prazipro for a couple weeks as well redosing and doing water changes every 3 days while using prazi. No carbon or zeolites when running prazi as it pulls the stuff out. I dont want some wierd flatworms or anything slipping through.

Im yet to qt a clam, but i would probably use some sort of phytoplankton instead of reef energy in small amounts. No shrimps allowed in my tank as they rip corals mouths open to steal food from their gut and shred the corals in the process. Once they figure out its an easy meal, theyll do it every time. No crabs allowed either as ive seen thim nip at corals. Only a porcelin crab because they look awesome and cant really nip. Told you I was paranoid lol.
