My DT is on its way to cycling, and I just set up my QT (HOB, PVC, heater,) and got some Biospira. I went to LFS to get two clowns, and with the plan of adding the clowns and Biospira at the same time. Got into a discussion with the LFS about fully cycling the QT first before adding the clowns.

I am new to the hobby and have been trying to read/learn, and was under the impression its possible to setup QT more quickly vs waiting out a full cycle.

Opinions? Recommendations! I am in no rush, just want to do it the right way to maximize success and limit complications!

Thanks!

I cycled my 20gal QT with the same stuff before I put anything in it (coincidentally two clowns). Safest route is to let it completely cycle. Impatient route is start it a week or 10 days and then throw them in. Manage ammonia export via water changes to keep it at safe level till it completely cycles. Roll the dice method is mix all ingredients thoroughly at one time and hope for the best.
