I had my yellow tang, assessor and 2 Wyoming white in qt getting acclimated. all very small. Largest fish yt but under 2 inches. Today I put in praz. assessor was dead. the yellow tang was lying on his side. i panicked. got the yt and put it in my nano and the clowns in a peace maker in my nano. I was doing the qt since my dt had marine velvet. still on fallow but I could not let the 3 other fish die. Now they are in my nano, almost killed with prazi and did get to do copper. I understand I may now have two infected dts but could not watch the fish die in qt. I think the clowns are fine since they came from a local reefer who has been breeding them.

Prazipro will deplete oxygen rapidly and you need to be careful with it, you need to provide enough circulation and oxygen so fish don't suffocate. Only time will tell if nano got infected or not, hopefully the yt is disease free and it didn't infect the tank.

+1 to the above. I use a foam filter with the bubbler hooked to a simple air pump in all my qt tanks to both help with filtration and to push some oxygen into the water throughout the qt process: Coppersafe/Cupramine and then General Cure. Works great.

Actually I use both. I use a powerhead aimed up a bit toward the surface to agitate the surface tension of the water which helps mix some O2 into the water. But I have found the foam filter (which I presoak, if I have time, in my sump to collect beneficial bacteria) helps both to provide some extra filtration and the bubbles greatly increase O2 in the water. That extra O2 helps during the meds treatment.

thanks. just when I decided i need to qt all my fish i kill one due to my carelessness :( and ended up with no qt uggg
On a positive note. My emaciated yellow tang likes my mature 20gallon nano for the time being until my fallow ends .

Hey, it's a learning thing. Knowledge is great; experience makes us want more.

Thanks. I just ordered a foam filter. I am considering. catching all the fish I will put in my display tank and still doing a qt. I have 66 days of fallow left so it should be fine. Though I dont think I could put all the fish in my fluval 13.5 qt.

Unless you guys think observation is fine in my 20 gallon im nano

If your fish had velvet, then they still do. You'll need to treat them to be sure none of them carry it back to the display. Are you sure it was velvet? Do you have any pictures of them from when they showed symptoms? Also, for next time (hopefully there isn't a next time!) When you fish have velvet, it's a good idea to start with the copper treatment right away since velvet can kill very very quickly.

I don't have pictures. That was in my display tank. Hopefully my nano doesnt. I am still thinking about treating before putting them into my display tank if I can get the tang to eat. Since I have 66 more days to go, maybe watch the next two weeks to see how the fish do before putting them in qt? what do you think.

Since you put fish back into the display before the fallow period was over, the clock gets reset to zero and treatment should begin from step one.

I have two tanks. My display Red Sea reefer has no fish. My nano im marine is my second tank plus I have a qt fluval evo tank. Sorry for misunderstandings.

Has the tang spent even a second in the tank with velvet after the other fish had symptoms? Have you reused any nets, equipment, or even stuck your arm from one to the other?

Maybe but never spent time in dt

couldnt I just do the prazipro in my nano and then transfer to qt for cupermine?

I'd treat it as if it's infected, personally.

I have a seeded filter and I have checked ammonia. It was .05. I will do a water change before starting. The thing that sucks about a qt tank is you dont have inverts to get rid of your detritus and uneaten food. Especially when you are trying to get your tang to eat

With a foam filter do you just let it float in the tank?

It sits on the bottom (usually in a corner of the tank) and is hooked up to an air pump. Which provides weak suction (trapping debris in the foam) and blows bubbles which breaks the surface providing O2.
