Hi guys,

My tank is all cycled and I’m about to get my fish fish into QT.

I was planning to get a pair of juvenile clowns, and put them into QT (was going to be dosing Copper to start).

I have a question regarding feeding them, I will be away for 3 days where I won’t be able to feed them. Is this too long for them not to be fed?

I searched on this topic, and it seems like clowns can go a week+ without eating, none of the threads I found mentioned QT though. I just wanted to make sure that since these are going to be juveniles AND be in QT; will 3 days without feeding be ok?

Thanks!

Humans can also easily go for 3 days without food, but imagine how it feels? The fish will feel the same. Eheim auto feeder is about $40, very reliable, I've had mine for a few years now, it will pay for itself over the years.

Enjoy your getaway. When you get back, fish will be hungry. Plus, your ammonia level will low. I have 38 fish and went to Orlando not long ago and without food as my trusted person to stop and feed was gone also. All fish were fine. I did turn my whites off to reduce metabolism.

Thanks! Ya I guess that is the one benefit is that my ammonia wont be as high as it would. When you say you turned off your whites, did you mean lights?

Thanks, ya I probably should just get one - I’m sure this won’t be my only time I will be away from the tank for a few days.

Weird - I replied last night, but it didn’t post….

The devil is in the details -

is “being away” mean 3 days without food, or will it be 4 days between feedings?

At what point during quarantine will you be gone? If it is early in the process, just wait on buying the fish until you return perhaps?

Auto feeders work, but they may be difficult to set on QT needing a tiny amount of food.

Hey Jay,

Thanks for the reply, I would be gone at approximately day 10 of the quarantine. I would be leaving on a Friday late afternoon and returning on Monday afternoon - so I’d say just 3 days between feedings.

And yes - that is my concern about the auto feeder is that it will put in too much food and spike my ammonium.

Cheers
