How many of you have an emergency back up Quarantine tank for you precious corals? I want to set one up just in case a tank crash occurs. Is it basically the same as a fish quarantine but with better lights and flow? pls share what yours looks like and how you have it set up.

I actually frag a piece and give it to some of my close by friends and they also do the same in case one in our small group has a tank crash the group can replenish their stock once back and going and it is highly unlikely that everyone's tank will crash at the same time. I find it easier this way than to set up a separate QT tank just for back up corals from my system. I just use a QT tank for holding new items to make sure healthy before adding to main system.

i dont have close friends that reef like I do lol

Here's mine, actually just set it up a week ago. Tired of my tank catching STD's

It's a simple 12 X12x12 rimless, just running carbon and sponge in the HOB filter. I'm still not sure if that is enough flow by itself, but I have a spare mp10 if need be, but I was planning to use that in a frag tank I'm setting up.

So do you let it cycle the same way as set up a brand new tank? what lights do you use?

I pulled water from the main tank and did a 20% WC, still got a small cycle, so I'm doing small water changes every other day (like 5%). Corals that are in there are doing fine. The light's are DIY from Rapid LED, cool white, blues, UV's and moon lights.

Update on the QT.

Moved it from out in the man cave to inside the house, was getting pretty good temp swings. I also had a significant cycle that took the tank almost a month to settle in, I don't feed the tank so I was surprised by it. I guess the no3 that was present in my tank water feed the system. Currently reading 0 no3 but .08 for po4. Not sure where that's coming from unless it's leaching out from the plastic rack I made. If it continues I'll add a sack of rowaphos to the filter.
