Hello,
I need some advice. I know we are all supposed to QT all fish before putting them into the display tank but if it is the initial batch of fish going into a newly cycled tank (say two clowns or some chromis) do they need to be QT first? I realize that all subsequent fish should be QT'd before placing into the DT. Also, could a couple of fish be QT'd in the same quarantine tank at the same time if they came from the same seller?
Now onto corals:
When you get corals I realize you need to dip them to get all the nastiness off them but should you place them in your QT tank before you place them in your DT, if the water/light parameters are the same as your DT? I will have the needed light on my QT tank for the corals. If this is the case, how long do you QT corals?

Thanks for the help.

For fish, yes you should QT them. You can QT all your fish in the same tank. Of course size of the tank and fish matter but thats another topic.

As for coral, get some CoralRX. I use an empty bucket and place my corals in there. I then use their water (in the baggie) to fill the bucket a bit. I then drip acclimate the coral to my tank water. When they have been acclimating for 45 minutes or so, I will pour in some CoralRX. Follow the directions. You only dip them in the solution for 5-10 minutes. Be sure to to have some water movement when using CoralRX.

I have been lucky so far.. 5 fish added, no ill effects. I attempted to quarantine my first two clowns, and lost one. i took display tank water, and attempted to quarantine them in a 10 gallon tank. the ammonia spiked and killed one. Im probably going to find a 20 gallon tank for quarantine in the future so maybe it will be a bit more stable.
