QT Frags.. but use a wrasse to help.

ok.. so I now QT everything that is wet. I have a 55 gallon tank for fish QT. 20 Gallon for snails and 30 QT for frags.. I do this for ick and for sps bad boys.. my QT on the frag tank was doing well but now I am finding AEFW and Nudi's in there. I will be dipping and re dipping.. I would like to add a wrasse in there to help out.. but my thought is if I do that he can be keeping any ick that comes in on a frag alive and completing the cycle. Thoughts on what you guys do.. Thanks

Yellow wrasse , 6line wrasse ( bully alert ) , springer blue demsel ( don’t confuse with regular blue demsel ) dragon face pipe fish ( interesting fish )

never used springer blue damsels.. They work well? will they eat both nudi's and AEFW?

They are supposed to eat aefw, I never had them so my springer is unknown for performance. Wrasses will eat MEN, pipe fist love red bugs ect

They really need to be kept without fish to prevent ich and velvet. I would tackle the nudis and aefw with dips.

I QT all my corals in a FISHLESS system for atleast 90 days. If you have a wrasse in your Coral qt you can take the chance of bringing in velvet, ich or other fish hosting parasite and diseases. If your qt is fishless the parasite can’t survive and will die out before adding to your tank. You should be dipping before qt anyways to kill any flat worms but won’t kill the eggs. Then after 60 days you can qt for a few more weeks in a different qt with wrasses if you have flat worm problems. That’s my all natural super safe coral qt regimen.

When you receive new frags, in addition to dipping, I highly recommend cutting off the old plugs and gluing the frags to new plugs that helps to eliminate any hitchhiking eggs.

I would think keeping a fish in the QT negates it’s use as a QT like you said due to it now being able to continue the ich life cycle.
You’re probably better off with dipping regularly and physical removal.

I did this.. some how I think I got lazy and allows a plug or two to get through. I need to search a good link for bayer amounts and times for dipping to kill AEFW and Nudi's

is bayer the overall recommended product for both these bad guys..?

Wrasses, damsels and butterflies will eat the things, but they will not eradicate them, IMO. Arrow crab or peppermint shrimp might help more. However, nothing can get to all of them, so routine dipping or using a in-tank type of treatment like FWS or wormwood needs to happen as well.

Well looks like they survived the Flat Worm Exit bath. Although I did not do the tank.. I did the frags and rocks outside of the tank. only one I found so far.. I did not see any in the tubs that I treated the rock or the frags.. hmm.?
