I picked up a bonded shrimp goby pair and pistol shrimp. Maybe I should call them a trio...

Wide-Barred Shrimp Goby (Bonded Pair) with Red Banded Pistol Shrimp

Are there any best practices for QTing these three? Any disadvantage with separating the shrimp pair from the pistol shrimp?

QT the shrimp separate from the Gobies. The fish need treatment. The Shrimp can be in a QT tank for at a minimum of 6 weeks without any meds. This will help with any ich or Velvet the shrimp may be carrying. As long as the Gobies and shrimp find each other again once added back together they should pair no problem.

Isolate the shrimp to a fishless environment until you see it shed it’s exoskeleton. Any unhatched tomonts will be on that.

QT the gobies the same as you would any other fish. They will all meet back up in the DT. :)

Two great responses!

Thank you both for your responses. I knew the answer but wanted some support to tell me

1. Yes, you have to quarantine them separately and
2. Yes, everything will be OK and they won't skip a beat when they get into the display.

Thanks!

If you had the room and tank to do so, couldn't you reintro them there before going into DT? In large systems, for example, is it generally more difficult for them to find each other again? Or would the above extra step not make a bit of difference?

Stealing this thread for a second,

But gobbies like sand and my qt is bare bottom

You can put a little sand in a glass pyrex bowl for them. Absorption should be minimal, but I would still check your Cu level daily to ensure it doesn't drop below therapeutic.
