Hello,

So after a brief outbreak I took a minor break from the hobby but now would like to QT my remaining fish and start up again.

My concerns are quarantining my banded snake eel, inverts, and mandarin. Can I treat them all with copper or leave in the tank as it is fallow or will that mess up the fallow period?

Any advice is appreciated.

I believe copper will kill inverts, so I don’t think you need to worry about them.

You should however qt the mandarin if you have concerns about it. I can’t say whether you should qt the eel or not though because I’m not too educated on this.

The mandarin will be the tricky part as they won't have anything to eat while in quarantine. Both fish of concern in your post will handle coppersafe or copper power though. Just make sure to not attempt with any other forms of copper.

Levels should be brought to 2.25 over the course of a day and maintained for 30 days uninterrupted. Make sure you have a reliable test such as hanna.

Hyposalinity is another option depending on setup. Tank will need to be fallow for 46 days to ensure nothing remains. Stickies on all procedures listed can be found in the disease forum stickies.

What was the disease issue?
If the snake eel and the mandarin survived whatever it was, perhaps they weren’t succeptable (some flukes for example).

Mandarin best treated with either general cure or chloroquine phosphate. Eel is toleratnt but I recommend between 2.0 and 2.2 treatment level

That’s a tough call - either of those diseases can exist on both of those species, so they could be carriers for a long, but unknown period. Neither of those are really sturdy when treated with standard treatments (coppersafe or hyposalinity). You could try chloroquine as mentioned, but don’t treat that higher than 15 ppm.
The invertebrates can’t be treated with chloroquine, and it will kill your algae.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just run chloroquine on all the fish? Here is an article I wrote on using chloroquine:

I think in the end I will be doing Hypo for all the fish. Any concerns with that?

Hypo at a specific gravity of 1.009 works for marine ich and flukes, but does NOT work for velvet.
