It can, and if your water parameters change it can also start releasing the copper causing it to spike. Having rock and sand in a tank with copper just makes it more difficult to control.

Oh alright I was just wondering, but ok I'll start removing the rocks through the next few days.

I think this is my last question lol but could it have been an ammonia spike that caused the deaths? I mean they were totally fine up until I started feeding them more so if it could have been an ammonia spike should I do a water change just to be safe or what?

It's possible. As with all things in this hobby, changes should be done slowly. If you think you need to feed more you need to increase what you are feeding slowly to ensure the biological filters have a chance to adjust and keep up.
I would test for Nitrate and if it is high I would do a water change. Odds are that if you had an ammonia spike it is taken care of now.

True, I should have done it slower.. But lesson learned on that if this is the culprit. So I'll test my Nitrate when I get home, I'll update on that once I test it.

Oh! I just remembered but oddly enough there's a very small snail in the QT, I guess it came with the sand but I was just wondering how it's still alive with copper being in the tank?

Copper is a slow acting poison. The concept is that it will kill the parasites before it kills the fish. You probably just haven't had the copper at a high enough level for a long enough period of time to kill the snail yet.

True, I was just wondering.. Today we just got the tank to therapeutic levels.

We're using Cupramine, and the therapeutic levels are 0.5. That's where our copper is at, as of this morning.

Well for the fire fish, the first time they were in quarantine with copper for 2 weeks. Then the second 6 weeks with copper for velvet and since the 5th up until yesterday and two days ago with copper. The wrasse and coral beauty I have no clue if they were in QT before they were in the frag tank we got them from. Before any of the fish in QT were added from my DT or before the wrasse and coral beauty were added, we had a emperor angle in the QT that the other fish are in now but he was moved to another one we have the next day we got him but we put PraziPro in the tank with him because we saw one dot on him and that was it. So as far as medicine goes there was PraziPro in the same tank for a day and then we did a water, then once the fish from my DT were added we put in KanaPlex and then copper.

Are you running an airstone or have a small powerhead pointed towards the surface of the water to compensate for this?

Copper treatment should be 30 days, any less and its not effective and more (well honestly I'm not sure). Could you have had some left over prazi in the tank when you started treating with copper? Those two mixed will deplete the oxygen in the tank. Could be a factor?

Now I really think it's oxygen related, since I was watching the fire fish before they died they were both breathing real fast.. I should have thought more about oxygen being the reason but I thought their might be enough oxygen from the HOB filter hitting the water surface and getting oxygen that way but their must not be enough.. Also do I need to do a water change to help get most of the chemicals out and get the copper back to therapeutic levels after the water change?

The more meds you mix, the greater the O2 depletion. It can literally suffocate your fish to death - which is why you are seeing heavy breathing before they die.

No that was a different QT tank, the one they are in now is a totally new QT tank only been up for 1 month now.

Well the PraziPro only lasts two to three days and that was over a month ago that we added it. The KanaPlex could just be the problem with the copper.. So I'll add an air stone and see if that helps.
