Hi,

typically i QT all my fish, i try to avoid treating prophylacticaly, i observed and treat when needed.

I may have an opportunity to get a healthy couple of chalk bass from the DT of a reputable Coral shop, they are adults, healthy and reproducing, they are about 2years old.

i know that all fish in their tank went throught QT. And they are all healthy.

i was wondering if QT is absolutely necessery ? it's not like getting fish from LFS that are young, stressed, etc.

I will probably end up QT anyway, but was wondering what you guys though ?
could i QT for a shorter period of time ?

i know it all depends on the risk im willing to take, but even if i QT all my fish, i feel the process is stressfull for the fish. for those 2 since they seems to come from a good environment i was wondering.

thanks

As you said it is all.about the amount of risk you're willing to take. I would at minimum QT them for a few weeks just to watch. I would most likely fully QT. And you never really know what your LFS is doing with that tank. They could still be carriers without outward signs and possibly be immune but still infect your entire DT.

yeah, that what i'm thinking... no short cuts :P
thanks

if i QT for 4 weeks, i should be good without treating ? could i do hypo ?

You could do hypo, and that treats both ich & flukes. Unless one of the fish happens to have a hypo resistant strain of ich. o_O
