Hello all!
I am currently in the process of quarantining a Purple Tang that I acquired May 23, and I am trying to be thorough as I do not want to take any chances in introducing any diseases into my DT (currently going through a complete restart in the DT -- Triggering a revamp in my QT process).
So the story with my Purple Tang -
First acquired fish on May 23 - Put into initial QT tank.
June 5 (Still in initial QT tank) - Fish broke out in white dots (Ich/Velvet?)
June 5 - Fresh Water Dip Preformed + Began TTM (Transfers occurring on 6/7, 6/9, 6/11, 6/13, 6/15, 6/17, 6/19, 6/21)
June 21 - Purple Tang placed in a holding QT tank for further observation. (Since TTM, has not displayed any signs/symptoms of any disease).
My question to you all, how long should I leave in this QT tank post TTM to ensure that the fish is disease free. I know that if I was mistaken in my diagnosis of Ich and the Purple Tang had Velvet, TTM would not be effective. So I'm not sure how long post TTM Velvet would take before the Tang showed any signs or symptoms of infection, and I want to be certain he/she is free from any possibility of hosting any disease before I move into my last QT tank.
Also may help to state my current QT process --
Whenever I acquire a new fish, I am now immediately starting the TTM, incorporating two Prazipro treatments, as well as Stress Guard additions (on the transfers without Prazipro). Once TTM has been completed successfully, the fish is then placed into a slightly larger QT (> 10 feet away from the TTM "station") for a 2-week observation period. If during this two weeks the fish has not shown any s/s of disease or illness, I am then placing the fish into my final "holding tank" (>10 feet away from both TTM/Observation "stations") with the others that have passed the previous treatments/transfers while my DT is remaining fallow. This will allow me further time to observe as well, but my goal is that this "holding tank" will be free from any disease (simulating my DT) as I will be transferring multiple fish over time into this tank as they pass the TTM/2-week observation period.
If there is any suggestion for improvement on my QT process, I would love to hear that as well!
Thank you all!
